Description
Iron ships and men of iron -- the monitors of liberty. One of the earliest examples of History Film, Hearts in Bondage is a loose depiction of actual events that took place during the American Civil War. This film follows the friendship of Kenneth Reynolds and Raymond Jordan; best friends who find their friendship tested across party lines. This story of friendship is helmed by legendary actor Lew Ayres (who appeared in the now-immortalized All Quiet on the Western Front just six years prior) who makes his directorial debut.

I found this an excellent choice. Remastering is well done. The film is delightful at times. It is a fine example of a historic fims that captures a key point in our nation's history. Filming of the sea fighting between the Monitor and the Merrimac is as exciting as current naval battles. Interchange between President Lincoln and the main characters are especially inciteful, especially as seen from the perspective of the current times in America.
