The thing to love most about Alison Tyler is that she writes and produces kink that makes you think – about erotica, about bondage, about your relationship to both, about literary fiction, about kink itself and your place in relation to all of the above. In the introduction, Tyler talks about how these stories delve deep down, and that’s just what they do. This collection has been curated into a cadre of stories and characters that don’t just get you off, but get inside your head at the same time and twist at just the right moment – and that’s fantastic. When the title says “bondage with an edge” there’s a fine line between referring to the reader or the subject of the story. These are stories that slip in around you quietly, tie the knots while you’re not looking. From scorching to funny to magical realism, all of these are literate kink of the finest caliber. This is truly a masterful collection and there is quite simply nothing bad about this anthology. A pleasure, pure and simple, to experience. Also reviewed for Portland Book Review.
